Does LeBron James Use Marijuana?
LeBron James is arguably one of the best and most powerful players in the NBA. Before James became the valuable player he is today, he was moving around from apartment to apartment with his single mom. In 1993, James began playing football with Bruce Kelker, who soon became one of the most reliable adults in James’ life. Kelker bought and stored James’ equipment, picked him up for practice everyday, and eventually welcomed James and his mom into his home. After a few months, James moved in with local football coach Frank Walker and his family to live a more stable life. Walker taught James how to dribble and shoot layups, so he soon joined his first basketball team at nine years old. James continued playing Amateur Athletic Union basketball with his team, who all decided to attend St. Vincent–St. Mary High School together, where they would continue playing on the same team. By his junior year, James was leading his team when he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, becoming the first high school basketball underclassman to do so. During his final year, James traveled the country, and by 2003 he was selected by his home team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, as the first overall pick of the 2003 NBA draft. At the end of his first season, James was named NBA Rookie of the Year, and in 2006, he eventually led the Cavaliers to the playoffs for the first time since 1998. Now, James continues to lead the Cavaliers and NBA as one of the best players all around.

When James first gained success playing basketball in high school, he struggled with the fame and admitted to smoking cannabis, which he revealed in his book “Shooting Stars”. James remembers the time after he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated at just 17 years old, “I was arrogant, dubbing myself ‘The Chosen One’. In hindsight, I should have kept quiet, but I also was what I was, a teenager where every reporter in the world seemed to be rushing toward me at once.” So after gaining access to a hotel room in Akron one night, James and his teammates smoked cannabis, but he has had no connection to cannabis in pros because the NBA bans its players from using marijuana.
