Here is the interference I get from the neighbor’s marijuana grow lights, he said he had 16,000 watts for a “home grow”. You’re viewing my SDRPlay receiver into HDSDR out of my Kenwood TS-590S. 14 mhz, 20 M. Antenna is a hex beam, noise canceler is MFJ-1206 (does pretty much nothing now as the signal is so strong).
Something has changed because the interference is now worse than before (he changed out some cheap ballasts for some better ones previously) – Now I’m completely wiped out on most bands when the lights are on. He operates them 18 hours a day (each set of plants) for two different sets of plants (different start times). This leaves just a few hours a day, without RFI, as each plant group runs for 18 hours. My ham radio equipment is now completely useless. Couldn’t get the Mellish Reef DXpediion. In this video I only had a less than one minute window to try hear them. I’ve offered to take a look as there’s several things that can be done to reduce RFI (I bought a large roll of copper tape. RFI filters can take out some interference. Of course he doesn’t want me to see what he’s doing, so won’t let me assist. I’m getting incredible amounts of interference on 10M – 160M most bands are completely wiped out. His “grow” garage is only 18 feet from my house, 45 feet from my hex beam.
Of course this is Washington State so recreational pot is legal (not federally) here. These are “medical grows” with several friends in a COOP so they can have either 45 or 60 plants (not sure now many are allowed now) — This just the RFI problem… The nauseating smell is another huge issue. They’re doing this ONLY 18 feet FROM MY DAUGHTER’S BEDROOM WINDOW!!!
Any suggestions what to do? Legal action or other things that might help?
